Chapter 10 - Dawn of the Broken Sun

Three months later, the private gardens of the Sterling Estate were bathed in the warm, golden light of a crisp autumn morning.

The sprawling manor—once silent, cold, and haunted by decades of grief—was now alive with the sound of laughter, clinking silver tea cups, and classical violin music. Prominent figures from around the world mingled on the manicured lawns, but today, they weren't talking stocks or mergers. They were celebrating a miraculous homecoming.

On the grand stone veranda, Elena Sterling sat in a comfortable wicker armchair, wearing a stunning emerald-green dress that matched the vibrant spark back in her amber eyes. She looked healthy, radiant, and completely at peace.

A few feet away, playing on the lush green grass with a fluffy golden retriever puppy, was Mia. The little girl was wearing a bright yellow sundress, her hair tied with a silk ribbon, laughing uncontrollably as the puppy chased a red rubber ball across the lawn. The scars on her arm were still there, but they were no longer a badge of trauma; they were simply a reminder of the darkness they had successfully escaped.

Arthur walked out onto the veranda, holding a fresh tray of pastries and tea. He set it down on the glass table, smiling softly as he watched his niece chase the puppy.

"She hasn't stopped smiling since breakfast," Arthur noted, pulling up a chair beside his sister.

"Neither have I, Artie," Elena replied softly, reaching out to squeeze his hand. "Sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night, expecting to see the walls of that cramped little room on 4th Street. And then I remember... we’re safe."

"You were always safe, El. I just took too long to find the door," Arthur said, his voice laced with quiet devotion.

Elena smiled, looking down at the small silver locket resting around her neck—the one with the broken sun. She popped the tiny clasp open, revealing the old photograph inside, but next to it, she had slipped a brand-new polaroid taken just this morning: a picture of her, Arthur, and Mia laughing together under the morning sun.

"You know," Elena whispered, her eyes twinkling with mischief, "the light really does find its way through the cracks."
