Chapter 19 - The Trap is Sprung

The morning sun rose over the Sterling Estate, but the warm, golden light of previous weeks was choked out by an ominous bank of heavy, gray storm clouds rolling in from the Pacific.
Inside the grand kitchen, Elena was busy packing a small lunchbox for Mia’s first official week at the city’s most prestigious private academy. Mia sat at the marble island, swinging her legs happily as she spooned yogurt into her mouth, completely oblivious to the digital war raging across her uncle's corporate empire.
Arthur walked into the kitchen, his dark suit impeccably tailored, but his face carried a hard, granite edge that hadn't been seen since Richard Vance’s trial.
"Artie?" Elena noticed the tension instantly, setting her knife down on the counter. "What is it? What happened?"
"Nothing you need to worry about, El," Arthur forced a tight, reassuring smile, walking over to pat Mia’s head. "Just some routine network maintenance at the docks. I have to head downtown early."
Before Elena could press further, the heavy oak front door of the estate burst open with a resounding crash.
Marcus strode into the foyer, flanked by two armed security operatives, holding a ruggedized tactical tablet. He didn't wait for an invitation; he marched straight into the kitchen, his face pale and sweating.
"Mr. Sterling," Marcus said urgently, holding the tablet out. "We didn't just trace the Zurich ping. We identified the signal source."
Arthur stepped away from the kitchen island, his eyes locking onto the screen. Displayed on the tactical tablet was a high-resolution satellite thermal scan of a private yacht currently anchored in the freezing waters of the Puget Sound, just three miles off the estate’s private shoreline.
And superimposed over the yacht’s transponder was a single, mocking digital signature: Vance.
"Richard is locked away in Florence," Arthur said, his voice dropping into a lethal whisper. "Who the hell is this?"
"That's Victor Vance," Marcus replied grimly, tapping the screen to pull up a heavily encrypted dossier. "Richard’s younger nephew. He spent the last decade operating in European dark-pools, completely detached from his uncle's domestic empire. While Richard was playing kingpin in New York, Victor was building an independent cyber-syndicate."
Elena gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "He's coming for us."
"He’s not just coming for us," Arthur replied, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the thermal scan of the yacht, which was suddenly turning its bow directly toward the estate's private dock. "He’s trying to finish what Richard started."
Arthur turned to Marcus, his voice absolute and unyielding.
"Lock down the estate. Move Elena and Mia into the panic shelter beneath the library. And ready my chopper."
"Mr. Sterling," Marcus warned, his hand resting on his holster. "Victor isn't just a businessman like his uncle. Intelligence reports indicate he employs armed mercenary-grade security. This isn't a corporate takeover anymore. It's a war."

Arthur pulled back his jacket, revealing the cold, reassuring steel of a custom-fitted firearm tucked into his holster—a weapon he hadn't carried since the dark days before Elena’s rescue.
"Let him come," Arthur said, his eyes flashing with lethal intent. "This is my house. And nobody touches my family twice."
