Chapter 20 - The Final Stand on the Shore

The heavy iron gates of the Sterling Estate groaned as a black armored SUV smashed through them, sending wrought-iron spikes flying across the manicured gravel driveway.

From behind the vehicle, six heavily armed men in tactical gear poured out, their assault rifles raised as they fanned out across the lawns. Leading them was a tall, lean man in a sleek trench coat, his face framed by sharp, predatory features and an ice-cold smirk.

Victor Vance stepped onto the wet grass, looking up at the grand glass-and-stone facade of the mansion with mocking amusement.

"Uncle Richard was always a fool," Victor muttered to his lead mercenary, adjusting his leather gloves. "He tried to win a war with a checkbook. Some problems require a sledgehammer."

"Perimeter secured, Mr. Vance," the mercenary leader barked into his comms. "Main doors are reinforced, but our charges will blow the foyer in thirty seconds."

Before the mercenary could finish his sentence, the heavy glass double doors of the mansion’s grand veranda slowly swung open.

Step by measured step, Arthur Sterling walked out onto the stone balcony. He wasn't hiding. He wasn't running. He stood tall, his dark suit catching the wind, his hands resting calmly at his sides.

Victor stopped walking, looking up at his uncle’s mortal enemy with a twisted grin. He pulled a secure satellite phone from his pocket and dialed.

Arthur’s phone buzzed in his breast pocket. He didn't answer it. He simply stared down at Victor from the balcony, his gaze as cold as winter stone.

Victor laughed, raising his voice so it echoed across the silent gardens. "Impressed, Arthur?! Your entire shipping empire is locked out, your servers are burning, and in about ten seconds, my men are going to burn this multi-million-dollar monument to the ground!"

Arthur finally spoke, his voice carrying effortlessly across the courtyard, amplified by the silent, crushing weight of absolute power.

"You think you won because you stole my servers, Victor?" Arthur asked, his voice dead calm.

"I took your empire!" Victor sneered, raising his hand to signal the explosive charges. "What could you possibly have left?"

Arthur slowly raised his right arm, rolling back his sleeve to reveal the jagged, star-shaped burn scar that ran down his forearm.

"I have something Richard never understood," Arthur said softly, his eyes locking onto Victor’s panicked expression. "Family. And unlike money... family can't be hacked."

Clack.

From the perimeter of the cliffside, the deep, thunderous rotors of three tactical police choppers suddenly tore through the gray clouds, flooding the estate with blinding searchlights and trapping Victor and his mercenaries in a cage of federal gunfire.

Before Victor could raise his weapon, red laser dots danced across his chest from a dozen sniper rifles perched on the surrounding ridges.

Marcus stepped out from the shadows of the veranda, holding a federal arrest warrant high in the air.

"Victor Vance," Marcus announced coldly, his voice echoing across the courtyard. "You are under arrest for federal cyber-terrorism, maritime piracy, and attempted extortion. Drop your weapons."

Victor stared up in utter disbelief as his mercenaries dropped their rifles one by one, raising their hands in surrender. He looked back at Arthur, realizing too late that the "Iron Shark" hadn't been caught in a trap—he had simply laid one.

Arthur turned his back on him without a single word, walking back inside the warm, glowing safety of the house where Elena and Mia waited by the fire.

The storm outside raged on, but inside the Sterling Estate, the light of the broken sun shone brighter than ever, unbreakable and eternal.
