Chapter 39 - The Heir Apparent Five years passed in a blur of unprecedented expansion and absolute dominance.

At fifteen years old, Leo Vatello stood six-foot-two, possessing the same chiseled jaw, broad shoulders, and terrifying, predator-like calm as his father. The boy who had once kicked a hundred-dollar bill into the slush of a Chicago street market now managed the day-to-day operations of the global syndicate while still finishing his advanced university degrees in mathematics and international economics.
Inside the estate study, Dante—now well into his forties, his hair threaded with silver at the temples—watched from the corner of the room as his son deftly negotiated a multi-billion-dollar shipping merger over a secure encrypted channel.
Leo clicked the terminal shut, leaning back in the massive leather chair and turning his dark, depthless eyes toward his father.
"The European ports are secured," Leo said smoothly. "The Mediterranean commission has formally requested our protection against the Marseilles cartels."
Dante smiled, walking over to the desk and placing a heavy, ornate gold signet ring beside Leo’s coffee cup—the original ring of his grandfather, polished and gleaming under the desk lamp.

"And what did you tell them?" Dante asked.
"I told them the Vatellos don't offer protection," Leo replied, his lips curving into that familiar, dangerous smile. "We offer partnership—or we offer a very permanent consequence."
