Chapter 40 - The Unbroken Throne The heavy oak doors of the Vatello estate study remained sealed tight against the Chicago night, but the air inside was no longer heavy with secrets, betrayal, or hidden wounds.

Dante Vatello walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the iron gates where a hundred years of syndicate history had been written, broken, and rewritten. The empire was secure. The bloodline was unbroken. The throne was anchored in iron and blood, defended by a mind sharper than any weapon ever forged.
Leo stood beside him, looking out at the glittering skyline of the city they owned, side by side, two generations of kings looking out over a world that belonged entirely to them.
"A king without an heir is just a man waiting to be forgotten," Dante murmured softly, recalling his father's dying words from a hospital bed long ago.
