Chapter 16 - Whispers in the DarkThe grand celebration at the community kitchen drew crowds from all over the city—local politicians who suddenly remembered how to smile, elderly residents sharing stories, and volunteers buzzing with renewed energy. But inside the shadowed corner of a nearby alleyway, far from the laughter and music, two men stood watching in silence.

“The entire network is gone,” a raspy voice hissed into the dim light. “Cruz is locked away, Thorne took an early retirement under federal investigation, and Vance controls the board.”
The second man stepped forward, his face half-obscured by the brim of a dark wool hat. He didn't raise his voice, but every word carried the weight of a death sentence.
“Vance thinks he won because he took our money,” the man murmured coldly. “He forgot the fundamental rule of the underworld: blood debts are never paid with coin.”
