CHAPTER 4 — "EL DIABLO PROTECTED HER... THEN THE SHOCKING TRUTH ABOUT HER FATHER WAS FINALLY REVEALED"

Dust filled the air.

Alejandro struggled to breathe beneath the enormous horse.

His bodyguards instinctively reached for their weapons.

"Don't move!" one shouted.

But nobody dared shoot.

One mistake...

One bullet...

And they could hit their own boss.

El Diablo stood over Alejandro like a guardian.

Its ears were pinned back.

Its muscles tensed.

Anyone who stepped closer was met with a violent kick into the dirt.

The crowd stared in disbelief.

The same horse that had attacked everyone...

Was risking its own life to protect Elena.

Alejandro finally crawled backward as his guards pulled him to safety.

His expensive suit was torn.

Blood trickled from a cut above his eyebrow.

Humiliation burned across his face.

He pointed at Elena with shaking hands.

"Kill the horse!"

No one moved.

Even the guards hesitated.

One of the oldest ranch workers stepped forward.

His voice shook with emotion.

"I can't."

Alejandro glared at him.

"What did you say?"

The old man swallowed.

"I helped raise El Diablo."

The ranch fell silent again.

"I also worked for Miguel."

Elena's eyes widened.

"My father?"

The old man nodded.

"Your father saved this horse when it was only a few weeks old."

"He bottle-fed him."

"He slept beside him during storms."

"El Diablo followed your father everywhere."

Tears filled Elena's eyes.

"Then why did he disappear?"

The old man lowered his head.

"Because Alejandro wanted the ranch."

"He threatened everyone."

"Some accepted money."

"Some stayed silent."

"And those who refused..."

His voice broke.

"...simply disappeared."

The crowd looked at Alejandro with growing horror.

Years of fear were beginning to crumble.

Gabriel stepped beside Elena.

"Your father never sold the ranch."

"He was framed."

"He was hunted."

"He spent the last twelve years hiding to keep you alive."

Elena felt her knees weaken.

"My father..."

"He's still alive?"

Gabriel nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"But there's something you don't know."

Everyone leaned closer.

Gabriel looked directly into Elena's eyes.

"The surgery was never the real reason he stayed in the hospital."

"He asked the doctors to keep his identity secret."

Elena whispered,

"Why?"

Gabriel took a deep breath.

"Because he knew Alejandro would come to finish what he started."

At that exact moment...

A ranch worker came running from the main house, completely out of breath.

"Boss!"

Alejandro spun around.

"What now?"

"The hospital just called..."

"They said..."

His face turned ghostly white.

"...Miguel has disappeared."

The crowd gasped.

But the next sentence was even worse.

"They also said he wasn't kidnapped..."

"He walked out on his own."

"And he left only one message..."

The worker unfolded a trembling piece of paper.

"'Tell my daughter... it's finally time to reclaim what belongs to our family.'"

Across the ranch, El Diablo suddenly raised his head and let out a deafening cry toward the distant mountains...

As if he already knew...

His true master was coming home.
