CHAPTER 5 — "THE DEAD MAN WALKED BACK INTO TOWN... AND THE MAFIA BOSS REALIZED HIS EMPIRE WAS ABOUT TO FALL"

By sunrise, the entire valley was in chaos.
People abandoned their breakfast tables.
Store owners left their doors unlocked.
Farmers stopped working in their fields.
Everyone had heard the same unbelievable rumor.
Miguel Alvarez was alive.
For twelve years, most believed he had died in the fire that destroyed Valle Verde Ranch.
Others whispered he had fled the country.
Some insisted Alejandro had buried him somewhere no one would ever find.
Now...
None of those stories were true.
Elena hadn't slept.
She sat beside El Diablo inside the stable, gently running her fingers through the stallion's mane.
Every few minutes, the horse would lift its head and stare toward the distant mountains.
Waiting.
As if it could sense someone drawing closer.
Gabriel entered quietly.
"I found something."
He placed an old leather journal in Elena's hands.
"It belonged to your father."
Inside were faded entries written over many years.
The first pages described ordinary ranch life.
Training horses.
Repairing fences.
Dreaming of expanding Valle Verde Ranch into the finest breeding farm in the region.
Then the handwriting changed.
The entries became rushed.
Uneven.
Fearful.
"Alejandro wants the land."
"He offered money. I refused."
"Someone poisoned two of our horses tonight."
"If anything happens to me... Elena must never lose this necklace."
A folded map slipped from between the pages.
Certain locations were marked with red circles.
One was the ranch.
Another...
An abandoned silver mine deep in the mountains.
Gabriel frowned.
"I think your father hid something there."
Before Elena could answer, the stable doors burst open.
One of the ranch workers stumbled inside, breathless.
"They're coming!"
Outside, a convoy of black SUVs raced across the valley, raising enormous clouds of dust.
Alejandro had arrived with nearly fifty armed men.
He climbed out wearing a fresh black suit, his face still bruised from El Diablo's attack.
But his eyes were colder than ever.
He slowly looked around the ranch.
"I've been patient long enough."
He pointed directly at Elena.
"Bring her to me."
Nobody moved.
Not a single ranch worker stepped forward.
Even some of Alejandro's own guards hesitated.
The silence infuriated him.
"You've all forgotten who owns this town!"
One elderly ranch hand answered quietly,
"No..."
"We finally remembered."
The words struck harder than any bullet.
For the first time in decades...
Fear had changed sides.
Alejandro drew his pistol.
"If none of you will do it..."
"I will."
He raised the weapon toward Elena.
Suddenly...
A deep voice echoed across the valley.
"Then you'll have to shoot me first."
Every head turned.
A weathered man wearing an old ranch coat slowly walked down the dusty road.
His beard was streaked with gray.
His left arm rested in a sling.
But his eyes...
They were unmistakable.
Elena gasped.
May you like
"Dad..."
Miguel Alvarez had come home.
