Chapter 6 - THE ALLIANCE FROM THE SHADOWSMaxwell instinctively pulled Ember behind his back, shielding her with his body, while Martha leaned heavily against a metal pillar, gasping for breath.

“You’re running a human trafficking ring disguised as an elite adoption broker,” Maxwell stated, his voice ringing clearly off the corrugated steel walls.
The silver-haired man laughed softly, stepping closer. “Trafficking is such an ugly word, Mr. Thornton. Let’s call it asset relocation. Children like Ember—bright, resilient, completely off the grid—are valuable commodities in certain private international markets. Her silence alone is worth millions.”
“She’s not a commodity. She’s a human being,” Maxwell said, his hand sliding slowly into his coat pocket, feeling the cold steel of his emergency satellite beacon.
“And you are just a grieving father who is about to have a very unfortunate, fatal boating accident in the harbor,” Evelyn replied, nodding to the two armed men. “Take the girl. Eliminate the witnesses.”
Before the gunmen could raise their weapons, the entire warehouse plunged into pitch darkness.
Pop-pop-pop!
The master electrical transformer box on the back wall exploded in a shower of blue sparks and acrid smoke. Sirens began to wail outside—not police sirens, but the high-pitched security alarms of an automated tactical response unit.
From the shadows of the overhead crane catwalk, a small, dark figure dropped silently to the concrete floor, landing with cat-like precision.
It was a teenager wearing a tactical black hoodie, holding a customized frequency jammer that had instantly disabled all communications and firearms within a fifty-foot radius.
“Drop your weapons,” a calm, steady voice commanded from the dark.

It was Liam—older now, sharper, leading a squad of private security operatives funded by the Liam Foundation.
Evelyn shrieked as Liam’s operatives swarmed the two gunmen, disarming them in seconds before slamming them face-first into the concrete floor.
