Chapter 24 - The Potomac Black-SiteSeventy-two hours later, a matte-black unmarked utility helicopter descended through the heavy, sulfurous fog hanging over the dense timberlands of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. The chopper touched down silently on a desolate concrete pad hidden deep within a protected federal installation zone

The target was Site-Omega, a subterranean communications relay station buried three hundred feet beneath the granite ridge, directly servicing the primary data feeds for the Department of Defense and Director Elias Voss’s personal shadow network.
"Thermal scans indicate a twelve-man security detachment patrolling the outer perimeter," Nora whispered, tapping rapidly on her ruggedized tactical pad as she projected a holographic wireframe of the bunker's interior onto the damp air. "Standard rotation every ten minutes. We have a thirty-second blind spot near the ventilation intake shaft on the eastern cliff face."
Grant checked the slide of his suppressed tactical rifle with a crisp, mechanical click. His eyes were cold, sharp, and entirely devoid of hesitation. "Let's move."
Moving with terrifying synchronization, the three operatives scaled the sheer granite cliff face using magnetic climbing ascenders, slipping silently through the heavy iron ventilation grate before the automated sensor sweep could register their thermal signature. Once inside, they dropped soundlessly onto the industrial catwalks of the sub-level primary cooling plant.
"We need to reach the central data core on level four," Mara directed, leading the advance down a narrow spiral staircase that plunged into the damp bowels of the mountain. "That's where Voss's quantum relay terminal is physically housed. Once we plug our data-siphon into the main bus, Nora can initiate the global broadcast override."
As they reached the heavy titanium security door guarding the core chamber, two armed tactical guards stepped out from an intersecting corridor, their weapons raised.

Before either guard could shout an alarm, Grant and Mara moved as a single, devastating unit. Grant swept the lead guard's legs out from under him, slamming his helmeted head against the concrete floor, while Mara neutralized the second operator with a precise, silent takedown that dropped him instantly into unconsciousness.
"Clean," Nora whispered, stepping over the fallen guards and walking up to the titanium door. She slapped a magnetic breaching charge onto the digital keypad. "Stand back. This is going to get loud."
