Chapter 18 - The Ultimate LeverageMy heart stopped beating.

For a fraction of a second, the entire world went completely deaf and blind.

"What did you say?" I whispered, my voice breaking.

"Go ahead, Samuel," Arthur said softly, his voice dripping with venomous amusement. "Check the master bedroom."

I dropped the phone, turned on my heel, and sprinted down the hallway like a madman, throwing open the door to the master bedroom.

The room was empty.

The window overlooking the ocean was slid wide open, letting the cold sea breeze whip the sheer curtains into a frenzy. On the king-sized bed sat Catherine’s favorite silver locket—and beside it, a tiny, knitted pink baby blanket belonging to Penelope.

Catherine was gone. Penelope was gone.

"CATHERINE!" I screamed, running to the balcony and scanning the rocky coastline below.

There was no sign of them—only a sleek black speedboat cutting swiftly across the white-capped waves far out in the bay, heading toward a private yacht anchored in international waters.

I grabbed my secure satellite phone from my pocket, my hands shaking so violently I could barely punch the buttons.

"Marcus!" I roared the instant the line connected. "Arthur Sterling has Catherine and Penelope! They took them from the safehouse! Scramble every vehicle we have! Track that yacht!"

"Samuel, calm down, listen to me," Marcus's voice came through urgently. "We're already tracking the yacht's transponder. But Arthur knew you'd come after him. He's not running away—he's setting a trap."

"I don't care about a trap!" I yelled, tears of pure rage finally spilling over my eyelids. "If anything happens to my wife or my daughter, I will tear his entire empire down brick by bloody brick with my bare hands!"
