Chapter 20 - The Final ReckoningThe doors burst open.

Inside the lavish, mahogany-paneled stateroom, Arthur Sterling sat comfortably in a leather armchair, sipping scotch as if he were waiting for a business meeting to begin.
Standing behind him were four heavily armed mercenaries, holding Catherine tightly by the arms. She looked pale, exhausted, but fiercely defiant, holding little Penelope—who was crying softly—against her chest.
When Catherine saw me standing in the doorway, her eyes lit up with a mixture of terror and overwhelming relief.
"Samuel!" she cried out.
"Ah, the prodigal son arrives," Arthur said smoothly, setting his glass down on the table and standing up slowly, adjusting his immaculate suit jacket. "I must admit, Samuel, your persistence is truly impressive. Most men would have broken years ago."
I lowered the safety on my rifle, aiming the laser sight directly at the center of Arthur's chest. My finger hovered over the trigger.
"Let them go, Arthur," I whispered, the rage inside me burning so hot it felt cold. "This is between you and me. Let my wife and daughter walk out of here right now."
Arthur chuckled, a dry, dismissive sound, and took a step forward, gesturing casually to the mercenaries holding Catherine.
"Oh, Samuel," Arthur smiled coldly, his eyes glittering with ruthless ambition. "You still don't understand how this game works. In our world, there is no escape. You either rule the empire, or you become part of the foundation."
He reached slowly inside his jacket pocket.
Before Arthur could pull out whatever weapon or detonator he was reaching for, a sharp, deafening crack echoed from the doorway behind me.
A single bullet pierced through the glass porthole, striking Arthur squarely in the shoulder. He gasped, stumbling backward against the mahogany table, his eyes widening in shock as blood stained his pristine white shirt.
I didn't hesitate. I lunged forward, slamming into the two mercenaries holding Catherine, overpowering them in a blind fury of adrenaline and survival. Within seconds, Marcus and the tactical team swarmed the room, subduing the remaining guards and securing the perimeter.
I dropped my rifle, rushed to Catherine, and pulled both her and Penelope into my arms, burying my face in her hair as we held each other tightly amidst the chaos.
"You're safe," I whispered, tears finally streaming freely down my face. "I've got you. You're safe."

Arthur slumped against the wall, clutching his bleeding shoulder, looking up at us with utter disbelief as federal maritime authorities closed in outside. His empire of lies had finally crumbled into the sea.
As the storm clouds overhead slowly began to break, letting the first golden rays of dawn pierce through the dark horizon, I knew the nightmare was finally over. We had survived the fire, the grave, and the shadows. And as I held my family close, I knew no one would ever tear us apart again.
