Chapter 12 - THE UNKNOWN ACCOMPLICEThe beam of a high-powered tactical flashlight suddenly cut through the darkness, blinding Adrian and Sophie with a glaring white glare.

Standing in the doorway was a tall, slender figure draped in a sleek black trench coat. As the figure stepped into the dim residual glow of the emergency backup lights, they lowered a dark silk hood.

Sophie gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "You... you’re Elena? But... you were Julian’s corporate secretary! You disappeared the day he was arrested!"

Elena tilted her head, a twisted, sadistic smile playing on her lips. "Disappeared? No, my dear Sophie. I simply went underground. While Vanessa and Julian were busy playing petty games of poison and hostile takeovers, they were merely my distractions."

Adrian’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. He recognized her now. Elena wasn't just a secretary; she was the silent architect behind Vanguard Holdings’ most ruthless hostile acquisitions—a ghost who left no digital paper trail.

"Distractions for what?" Adrian demanded, stepping forward despite the tactical light in his eyes. "What could you possibly want from us? Everything you had was seized by the federal government!"

"The government only seized what was legal, Mr. Vance," Elena laughed softly, stepping closer. "They didn't find the shadow portfolio. The offshore trust holding forty percent of your company's voting shares—shares that Vanessa unknowingly signed over to a shell corporation three weeks before she tried to feed you that shrimp, Sophie."

Sophie’s eyes widened in horror. "She... she signed more papers?"

"Oh, she signed plenty," Elena grinned, tapping the side of her temple. "And now that Vanessa is locked away for forty years and Julian is rotting in a maximum-security cell, guess who the sole surviving executor of that shadow trust is?"
