Chapter 14 - THE BASEMENT VAULTThe moment the heavy footsteps faded away, Adrian didn't hesitate. He grabbed the desk lamp, flipped it over, and punched in a rapid sequence of numbers into the concealed wall panel hidden behind the bookshelf.

Bip-bip-bip-click.
A hidden wall panel slid open, revealing a dusty staircase leading down into the estate’s original subterranean panic room and analog communications hub.
"Dad, she said she wiped the mainframe!" Sophie reminded him urgently, following closely behind him.
"She wiped the digital mainframe, Sophie," Adrian said grimly, pulling a heavy tactical flashlight from the wall mount. "She didn't know about the analog system. Your grandfather built this house during the Cold War. Everything important was backed up on physical microfiche and magnetic tapes that don't connect to the internet."
They descended the concrete steps into the cool, damp basement. Adrian rushed toward a heavy steel safe buried deep in the reinforced concrete wall. He spun the combination dial with lightning speed—left to forty-five, right to twelve, left to eighty-nine.
Clank.
The heavy steel door swung open. Inside weren't computers or flash drives, but rows of steel filing cabinets filled with original paper deeds, audio logs, and physical contracts predating the digital age.
"Look for the Vanguard Shadow Trust file," Adrian ordered, pulling out drawer after drawer. "If Elena claims she holds the power of attorney through a shell corporation, the original notary stamp has to be registered in these physical county ledgers."

Sophie frantically searched through the rows of files, her fingers brushing against old leather folders until her hand stopped on a thick, red-labeled dossier.
"Dad! Look at this!" Sophie gasped, pulling out a yellowed document with a fresh, forged digital override sticker plastered over it. "Elena didn't just inherit the trust... she forged the notary signature using a dead magistrate's seal!"
