Chapter 17 - THE NET CLOSESBefore Elena could spin around, the massive windows of the study shattered inward with a deafening crash. Flashbang grenades blinded the room in a blinding white flash and a thunderous roar.

Bang! Flash!
Before the mercenaries at the door could even raise their weapons, heavily armored federal tactical agents swarmed through the shattered windows and doorways, slamming both thugs face-first onto the Persian rug in a lightning-fast takedown.
"Federal agents! Don't move! Hands behind your back!" General Thorne roared, stepping into the room with his service weapon drawn, flanked by half a dozen armed operatives.
Elena shrieked, dropping the document as a pair of heavy steel handcuffs snapped tightly around her wrists, yanking her arms behind her back with brutal efficiency.
"No! No, you can't do this! This is a setup!" Elena thrashed wildly, her perfect white pantsuit scuffing against the dust as she was forced to her knees. "The document is fake! I didn't sign—!"
"You didn't have to sign, Elena," Adrian stood up slowly from his desk, walking over to pick up the dropped document with a calm, satisfied smile. "You just admitted on an unencrypted federal wiretap—which General Thorne recorded from the tactical command van outside—that you orchestrated this entire forged extortion."
Elena stopped thrashing. Her eyes widened with absolute horror as she realized the microphone hidden inside Adrian’s lapel had broadcasted every single word of her confession straight to the federal strike team.

"You... you recorded me..." Elena whispered, her voice trembling with pure, unadulterated fury.
"Checkmate, Elena," Adrian said coldly, tossing the folder onto the desk in front of her. "Take her away."
