Chapter 1 - THE WHISPER OF TREACHERYThe silence in the Moretti dining room shattered instantly. Rocco's words hung in the heavy air like a loaded weapon.

"You knew the hospital," Rocco repeated, his voice dropping an octave into a dangerous, icy register.

Valentina’s breath hitched. For a woman who prided herself on absolute poise, the micro-tremor in her left eyelid betrayed her. "Rocco, please. Everyone knows St. Helena Private. It's the only elite maternity ward in the city. Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Because," Rocco stepped closer, towering over her, "St. Helena's VIP wing records are private. Only my signature—or the signature of my legal wife—can pull files from that specific ward." He turned the plastic hospital band over once more, his thumb brushing against the engraved identification serial: SM-004-HEV. "And this number... this isn't a random birth tag. This is the internal tracking code for the Moretti heir registry."

Elena Bellini gasped, pulling young Sophia slightly closer, though the brave little girl refused to look away from the newborn in her arms.

"Search the security logs," Rocco ordered without breaking eye contact with his wife. He didn't raise his voice, but his command was absolute. Two guards instantly stepped forward, hands hovering over their holsters. "Find out who accessed the private elevator corridor leading from the master wing to the kitchen service stairs between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. If any camera was disabled, I want the tech team executed before sunrise."

Valentina’s face drained of color. The mask was slipping completely. "You're trusting a maid's child over your own wife? Rocco, this is a setup! Someone is trying to fracture us from the inside!"

"No one fractures a Moretti empire unless they have keys from the inside," Rocco replied coldly. He reached out, his large, calloused hands gently taking the crying newborn from Sophia.

Despite his terrifying reputation in the underworld, the mafia boss cradled the infant with a practiced, instinctive steadiness. The baby quieted almost instantly against his black suit jacket, tiny fingers wrapping instinctively around Rocco's gold pinky ring.

Rocco looked down into the infant's face. The resemblance was undeniable. The shape of the brow, the faint curve of the ear—it was a miniature reflection of himself.
