Chapter 18 - THE HEIR'S PROMISE!That evening, the Moretti estate hosted a grand private gala to celebrate Sophia's graduation. The ballroom was filled with elite allies, judges, and high-ranking officials who had come to pay their respects to the brilliant young legal mind who had legally dismantled half the underworld's financial cartels before even turning twenty-one.
During the celebration, twenty-one-year-old Sophia stood out on the grand marble balcony, looking out over the illuminated gardens where she had once walked as a barefoot child shivering in the rain.
Soft footsteps approached from behind. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
"Penny for your thoughts, counselor," Rocco said softly, leaning against the stone railing beside her with a glass of vintage wine.
Sophia smiled, resting her arms on the cool marble. "I was just thinking about that night, ten years ago. When I walked through those back doors with a crying baby in my arms. If someone had told me then that I'd be standing here today as a Harvard Law graduate... I never would have believed it."
"I would have," Rocco said firmly, turning to look at her with absolute conviction. "Even then, when you looked at me without an ounce of fear, I knew you possessed a strength that money couldn't buy and systems couldn't measure."
Sophia turned her head, meeting his steady, intense gaze. The air between them shifted, charged with a deep, unspoken history of mutual respect, survival, and devotion.
"Rocco..." she began softly, her voice trailing off as he reached into his breast pocket.
He didn't pull out a gun, or a burner phone, or a legal document. Instead, he pulled out a small, velvet jeweler's box, opening it to reveal a magnificent diamond ring entwined with a delicate silver vine matching her guardian pendant.
