Chapter 4 - BLOOD ON THE MARBLE!The silenced pistol coughed a muffled thud.

Before Marcus could pull the trigger a second time, Rocco moved with terrifying, inhuman speed. He lunged across the dining table, shattering crystal decanters and sending plates crashing to the floor. He slammed his body into Marcus just as the second bullet ricocheted off a marble pillar, sparking bright orange against the stone.

Both men crashed hard onto the floor, rolling over shattered glass. Marcus managed to swing the butt of his gun down, striking Rocco across the temple. A dark stream of blood leaked down Rocco’s face, but the mafia boss didn't even flinch. Adrenaline and pure, unadulterated fury took over.

"Kill him! Take him down!" Marcus shrieked to the guards, desperately trying to point his weapon back at Rocco.

The guards didn't hesitate. But instead of aiming at Rocco, three of the four security operatives turned their weapons directly on Marcus.

"Drop the gun, Marcus," the head guard commanded, his assault rifle locked on the traitorous consigliere. "Our loyalty is to the Moretti bloodline, not your corporate council."

Marcus froze, his eyes widening in betrayal. "You fools! The council will kill every last one of your families!"

"The council won't get the chance," Rocco growled, standing up over Marcus. He grabbed the consigliere by the collar, hoisting him up with one hand, and delivered a devastating punch straight to Marcus's jaw. The sound of cracking bone echoed through the dining hall. Marcus went limp instantly, collapsing unconscious onto the blood-stained marble.

Rocco stood breathing heavily, wiping the blood from his forehead with the back of his hand. He looked down at the unconscious traitor, then turned his gaze toward Valentina, who was cowering against the wall, shaking uncontrollably.

"Lock her in the basement vault," Rocco ordered the guards without a shred of emotion. "And throw Marcus into the interrogation cells. We have a lot of names to pull out of him before dawn."

Elena Bellini was trembling, clutching the crying newborn tight to her chest while shielding Sophia with her body. "Mr... Mr. Moretti... what should we do with..."

Rocco softened slightly as he looked at the two brave souls who had saved his entire legacy. He walked over, kneeling down on one knee in front of eight-year-old Sophia. Despite the blood on his face, his eyes were remarkably gentle.

Sophia looked right into his eyes, unafraid. "Is the baby safe now, sir?"

The immediate threat is neutralized, but the broader conspiracy runs deep within the underworld council. What will Rocco do next?
