Chapter 4 - THE MOLE IN THE SHADOWSThe steel security door at the top of the bunker stairs rattled violently. Heavy blows—likely from a tactical battering ram—thudded against the metal, sending vibrations down through the concrete floor.

"They found the secondary access," Marcus whispered, raising his assault rifle and aiming directly at the reinforced threshold. "Boss, the blast doors will hold for maybe three minutes. After that, we're fish in a barrel."

"They aren't getting past this door," Lorenzo said calmly. He pulled a heavy leather pouch from his belt, revealing a cluster of high-explosive breaching charges, and began setting them along the inner frame of the escape tunnel's secondary exit.

I stood frozen against the damp stone wall, the Glock heavy and foreign in my grip. My mind raced back to what Lorenzo had said upstairs. Sophia carried twins... your dead child might be connected...

"Lorenzo," I called out over the sound of the battering ram upstairs.

He didn't look up from wiring the explosives. "Talk fast, Hunter."

"If my baby—my little girl—was switched at St. Jude's three weeks ago, who took her? Who has her right now?"

Lorenzo paused for a fraction of a second, his jaw tightening. "The same person who leaked our security codes tonight. The only person inside this mansion with clearance to access the private medical wing, the nursery logs, and the perimeter security mainframe."

A cold dread washed over me. "Who?"

Before Lorenzo could answer, Marcus let out a sharp, strangled gasp.

I whipped my head around. Marcus staggered backward against the tunnel wall, dropping his assault rifle with a loud clatter. A thick, dark stain was spreading rapidly across the front of his tactical vest.

Standing ten paces behind us, emerging from the shadows of the lower maintenance tunnel that connected to the wine cellar, was a familiar figure holding a smoking suppressor-fitted pistol.

It was Elena, the head housekeeper.
