Chapter 9 - THE HEIRS OF ROSSII cradled the infant tightly against my chest, burying my face in her soft, warm neck. She smelled of baby powder and sweet milk.

"You're safe," I cried, pressing desperate kisses to her tiny forehead. "Mommy's here. I've got you."

Lorenzo stepped over the fallen broker, standing above us. He looked down at the two infants—Leo sleeping peacefully in his carrier, and his twin sister resting safely in my arms. For the first time since I had met the fearsome mafia boss, the hard, impenetrable armor around his eyes melted away, replaced by an overwhelming wave of profound relief and raw, human emotion.

He knelt down beside us, gently reaching out a calloused, scarred finger to stroke our daughter’s tiny cheek.

"They're together," Lorenzo whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Both of them."

"Because we are family now, Hunter," Lorenzo said softly, taking my hand in his. "Whether you wanted this life or not, our blood is bound together forever. Nobody will ever touch you or our children again. I swear it on my life."
