Chapter 6 - THE PRICE OF VENGEANCEBang!

The deafening roar of the gunshot echoed violently inside the confined concrete tunnel.

Elena screamed as a round slammed into her right shoulder, spinning her violently to the side and knocking her pistol flying across the damp stone floor. She crashed against the tunnel wall, clutching her bleeding shoulder with a look of pure shock and fury.

Before she could recover, Lorenzo moved with lightning speed. He fired a single, precise shot into Elena’s left knee, dropping her instantly to the ground with a sickening crunch.

"You... bitch..." Elena hissed, writhing in pain on the floor.

I stood there, the smoke curling from the barrel of the Glock, my hands shaking so violently I thought the gun might slip from my fingers. I had just shot a human being. But the thought of my stolen daughter—alive somewhere out there in the hands of monsters—erased every ounce of hesitation in my soul.

"Where is my daughter?" I stepped forward, pointing the barrel straight between Elena's eyes. "Tell me right now, or the next bullet goes through your skull."

Elena laughed, coughing up a small amount of blood. "You think... you think I kept her here? She's already on a private jet bound for Zurich. The broker has her. You'll never see her again—"

Click.

Lorenzo stepped past me, pressing the barrel of his own gun directly against Elena’s temple. "Last chance, Elena. Who is the broker, and what is the tail number?"

Faced with the absolute, unyielding coldness of a man who had nothing left to lose, Elena’s defiance finally cracked. She choked out a single name and a set of coordinates before her eyes rolled back and she passed out from blood loss.

Lorenzo didn't hesitate. He tapped his encrypted comm-link. "Marcus—stay down, get patched up. The extraction team is compromised. Deploy the drone swarm to intercept the Zurich-bound private jet at Teterboro Airport immediately. Nobody leaves the tarmac."

He turned to me, his dark eyes softening just a fraction as he looked at the shattered, courageous woman standing before him.

"We're going to get our daughter," Lorenzo said, his voice firm and absolute.
