Chapter 8 - REUNION IN THE SKYWe rushed up the ruined stairs and burst through the cabin door of the private jet. The luxurious interior was pristine, lined with leather seating and polished mahogany tables.

Standing near the cockpit door, holding a terrified, crying infant wrapped in a pink cashmere blanket, was a tall, middle-aged man wearing an expensive tailored suit. He had a pistol pressed against the baby’s tiny temple.

"Drop your weapons!" the man screamed, his voice cracking with panic. "Step back, or I swear to God I'll splatter her brains across this cabin right now!"

I froze. My breath caught in my throat.

In his arms was a baby girl—tiny, fragile, and crying with the exact same weak, desperate pitch that Leo had made hours earlier.

My daughter.

"Let her go," I sobbed, taking a step forward. "Please! Take me, take everything we have, just don't hurt her!"

"Shut up, you stupid bitch!" the broker yelled, his finger trembling on the trigger. "Lorenzo Rossi, drop the rifle or the girl dies right here!"

Lorenzo lowered his assault rifle slowly, his eyes locked onto the broker with lethal calculation. "You have three seconds to drop the gun and put the child down."

"Don't test me, Rossi—"

Crack!

The sharp, clean report of a silenced sniper rifle echoed from outside the jet window. A tiny hole appeared instantly in the side of the aircraft cabin, and the broker’s head snapped back as a round caught him cleanly through the temple.

He collapsed instantly, dropping the baby.

With a gasp, I lunged forward, diving across the cabin floor just in time to catch my little girl before she hit the carpet.
