Chapter 12 - The Unspoken WarningThe peaceful atmosphere of the morning was shattered by a sharp, rhythmic tapping at the front door.

Mrs. Chen, who had been pouring juice into crystal glasses, paused. She exchanged a swift, knowing glance with Vittorio. The billionaire’s relaxed posture vanished instantly, replaced by the lethal, calculating coldness that had made him a titan of industry.

“Stay here,” Vittorio instructed quietly, setting his plate down on the counter.

“Vittorio, wait—” Serena started, wiping her hands on a kitchen towel.

“I said stay,” he repeated, his tone absolute. He strode out of the kitchen, his footsteps echoing sharply down the marble hallway.

Serena didn’t listen. She motioned for Mrs. Chen to watch the children and hurried down the corridor, keeping just out of sight behind a massive gilded pillar near the foyer.

Through the towering double doors, a tall, impeccably dressed woman stood on the front steps. She wore a sharp white Chanel suit, designer sunglasses that hid half her face, and carried an aura of untouchable wealth and icy entitlement.

It was Elena’s mother—Vivian Vance. No, Vivian Sterling.

“You can’t keep them from me, Vittorio,” Vivian’s voice was sharp, cutting through the foyer like broken glass. “Those boys carry my daughter's blood. The court order granting me bi-monthly visitation is still active, regardless of what happened to Daniel.”

Serena’s heart skipped a beat. Daniel’s mother?

The web of deceit ran deeper than Serena had ever imagined. Daniel wasn't just a rogue lawyer; he was part of an elite, predatory family network that had tried to control the Rinaldi estate from the inside out.

“Your son is facing twenty years in federal prison for extortion and grand larceny, Vivian,” Vittorio’s voice was low, lethal, and vibrating with suppressed rage. “And you have the audacity to step foot on my property demanding access to my sons?”

“Your sons need a proper aristocratic upbringing, not a rotating door of glorified kitchen help,” Vivian snapped, lifting her chin with aristocratic disdain.

Serena stepped out from behind the pillar, her chin held high, her eyes flashing with a cold, protective fire.

“The ‘glorified kitchen help’ happens to be holding full legal custody and executive protection in this household, Mrs. Sterling,” Serena said clearly, stepping right up beside Vittorio.

Vivian slowly lowered her sunglasses, her cold, painted eyes scanning Serena from head to toe with blistering contempt.
