Chapter 17 - Shadows DissolvedThe boardroom grew quiet as the remaining board members hurriedly packed their files and filed out of the room, leaving only Vittorio and Serena alone against the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the Manhattan skyline.

The October sun cast a brilliant golden glow across the room, illuminating the victory they had just secured.

Vittorio stood up, walking slowly around the table until he stood directly in front of Serena. The cold, impenetrable armor he had worn for years was entirely gone, replaced by an open, vulnerable warmth.

“You didn’t just save your family today,” Vittorio said softly, his voice thick with emotion. “You saved mine.”

“We saved each other,” Serena corrected, smiling as she looked up into his dark eyes.

Vittorio reached out, gently taking her hands in his. He pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her waist as he leaned down and pressed a soft, deliberate kiss to her lips. It wasn't rushed or desperate; it was the sweet, certain seal of a future they had fought tooth and nail to build together.

“Does this mean I’m officially promoted from nanny to something more permanent?” Vittorio whispered against her ear, a rare, teasing smirk touching his lips.

“That depends,” Serena laughed softly, resting her head against his chest. “Do you still need help getting your four boys to eat their vegetables?”

“Always,” Vittorio murmured, tightening his embrace.
