Chapter 18 - A New FoundationThree months later, the Rinaldi estate looked entirely different.

The heavy, intimidating iron gates no longer felt like a prison wall, but a warm boundary protecting a loud, chaotic, and deeply loving home. The sprawling gardens echoed with the sound of children laughing, running across the perfectly manicured lawns under the crisp December snow.

Inside the grand kitchen, the air smelled of roasting chestnuts, cinnamon, and freshly baked carbonara.

Lucia and Leo sat side by side at the kitchen island, enthusiastically decorating holiday cookies with mountains of colored sprinkles, while Marco, Julian, and the twins chased each other around the breakfast nook in a flurry of winter sweaters.

Mrs. Chen stood by the stove, smiling as she watched Serena pull a fresh batch of pastries from the oven.

“I must admit, Ms. Valente—or should I say, Mrs. Rinaldi, when the paperwork officially clears next month—” Mrs. Chen chuckled, “I never thought I’d see this kitchen filled with actual joy.”

“It took a little chaos and a lot of stubbornness,” Serena smiled, wiping a smudge of flour from her cheek.

The back door swung open, and Vittorio stepped inside, brushing the light snow from the shoulders of his heavy wool coat. He looked tired from a long day at the corporate towers, but the moment his dark eyes locked onto Serena across the room, his entire expression softened into absolute warmth.

He didn’t go to his study. He didn't check his phone.

Instead, he walked straight through the chaotic kitchen, scooped up a laughing Lucia in one arm, and wrapped his free arm securely around Serena’s waist, pulling them both against him as the boys cheered around them.
