Chapter 14 - The Blueprint of ResistanceThat evening, after the children had fallen asleep in the west wing, the mansion’s third-floor study was lit only by the green glow of computer monitors and the amber light of a desk lamp.

Serena sat across from Vittorio, surrounded by legal binders, financial audits, and corporate bylaws spanning over a decade.
“Look at this clause,” Serena said, pointing a finger at a dense paragraph on page forty-two of the Rinaldi-Sterling merger agreement. “It says the trust is void only if the managing partner acts under duress or is legally declared unfit by a unanimous vote of the primary board members.”
Vittorio leaned in closer, his shoulder brushing against hers. “And since Vivian controls three of the five board seats—”
“We flip the other two,” Serena finished, her eyes sparking with brilliant determination. “We don't wait for them to attack on Monday. We audit their offshore accounts tonight. Daniel left a paper trail when he transferred those funds—I saw it in the legal briefs he dropped during our custody hearing prep.”
Vittorio stared at her, a profound look of awe and deep, burning respect washing over his striking features.
“You’re terrifying when you’re angry, Serena Valente,” Vittorio said softly, a genuine, warm smile breaking through his exhaustion.
“I’m a mother protecting her child, and a woman who refuses to be anyone's pawn,” Serena replied, holding his gaze.
The space between them suddenly felt very small. The rustle of paper faded away, replaced by the sound of their synchronized breathing. Vittorio reached out, his warm fingers gently tracing a strand of dark hair away from Serena’s cheek.
His hand lingered on her jawline.

“If we pull this off on Monday,” Vittorio whispered, his voice thick with a raw, long-suppressed emotion, “nothing will ever threaten us again.”
“Then let’s make sure we win,” Serena whispered back.
