Chapter 7 - The Trap SpringingThree days passed in a tense, fragile harmony inside the Rinaldi mansion.

Lucia had settled into the west wing suite with surprising ease, immediately bonding with Leo and even extracting a cautious smile from Marco during breakfast. Serena had taken over the estate's massive kitchen, turning mealtime into a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and incredible food.
Vittorio spent more time at home than his executive staff had seen in years, often sitting quietly at the end of the kitchen island, watching Serena work with a quiet, smoldering intensity that made her pulse race.
Yet, an undercurrent of danger hummed beneath the surface.
On Thursday morning, Mrs. Chen intercepted a package delivered by an unmarked courier at the service entrance. There was no return address—only a heavy cream envelope addressed directly to Serena Valente.
Serena opened it in the privacy of her suite.
Inside was a single sheet of cheap legal paper, typed with a manual typewriter:
Drop the custody defense by Friday morning, or the entire world finds out what really happened to Elena Rinaldi—and who helped her disappear.
Attached to the letter was a photograph: a grainy surveillance shot of Lucia walking through the public park near their old Brooklyn apartment, timestamped just yesterday afternoon.
Serena’s blood ran ice-cold. Daniel wasn’t just playing legal games anymore. He was threatening her daughter directly.
She grabbed the letter, stormed out of the west wing, and marched straight into Vittorio’s private study on the third floor, bursting through the heavy mahogany doors without knocking.
Vittorio was standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, reviewing financial spreadsheets. He turned instantly at the sound of the door, his eyes locking onto Serena’s pale, trembling face.
“What happened?” he demanded, his voice dropping into its dangerous, commanding register as he strode across the room.
Serena didn’t speak. She slammed the letter and the photograph onto his mahogany desk.
Vittorio looked down. As his eyes scanned the typed words and the image of Lucia, a terrifying darkness washed over his features. The temperature in the room plummeted. The air felt thick, heavy with the scent of an impending storm.
“He went after my daughter,” Serena whispered, her voice shaking with a rage so pure it burned. “Daniel crossed the line. If anything happens to her, I swear to God—”
“He won't touch her,” Vittorio interrupted, his voice lethal and absolute. He looked up from the desk, his dark eyes burning with a terrifying resolve. “He thinks he’s hunting us. He doesn’t realize he just walked into a cage.”
Vittorio reached for his desk phone, punching a private extension. “Get me Vance’s current location. Now. And prep the private transport.”

“What are you going to do?” Serena asked, stepping closer.
“End it,” Vittorio said simply. “Tomorrow is Friday. The custody hearing. We are going to court, Ms. Valente. But we aren’t going to defend ourselves. We are going to strike.”
