Chapter 16 - The Corporate Checkmate“What is the meaning of this?” Vivian demanded, standing up from her chair, her voice shaking slightly. “This is a private corporate board meeting! Unauthorized personnel are—”

“Serena Valente is no longer a nanny, Mrs. Sterling,” the banking commission representative interrupted, stepping forward and opening a crimson folder. She is the newly appointed Chief Compliance Officer of Rinaldi Global Holdings, holding power of attorney over all trust restructuring.”

A wave of shocked whispers erupted around the table.

Serena calmly walked to the head of the table, placing her briefcase down with a sharp, echoing clack. She opened it and slid copies of a federal financial audit across the polished mahogany toward the trembling board members.

“Over the last seventy-two hours, my team and I audited the legacy trust accounts,” Serena said, her voice clear, confident, and ringing with absolute authority. “We uncovered over twelve million dollars in illicit funds funneled through shell companies controlled directly by Vivian Sterling and her late associates to manipulate corporate votes.”

She looked directly at Vivian, who had gone completely white.

“Furthermore, all proxy votes cast by Mrs. Sterling are legally void under federal anti-racketeering statutes, given her active collusion in her son’s corporate extortion scheme.”

One by one, the board members frantically flipped through the documents, their expressions turning from arrogant defiance to sheer terror as they realized their own legal liability.

“Motion to permanently expel Vivian Sterling from the board of directors,” Vittorio stated calmly, raising his hand.

“Seconded,” spoke the eldest independent board member, slamming his hand down on the table.

“All in favor?” Serena asked, looking around the room.

Four out of the five remaining hands shot into the air instantly.

Vivian stared around the room in absolute horror, realizing her decades-long empire of manipulation had collapsed in less than five minutes. She grabbed her handbag, turned on her heel, and stormed out of the boardroom in absolute defeat, the heavy glass doors clicking shut behind her.
