Chapter 24 - The Counter-Gambit

The silence in the grand hall was absolute, broken only by the crack of burning logs in the hearth.
Liam, Noah, and Caleb stepped up beside me, forming an unbroken wall of defense and brilliance. My sons didn't flinch under the Baroness's piercing gaze; instead, Caleb pulled a sleek tablet from his leather portfolio and set it flat on the center of the heavy oak table.
"Before my mother answers your proposal, Baroness," Caleb said, his voice ringing with absolute calm and professional poise, "perhaps you should review our counter-filing with the International Court of Justice and the Swiss Federal Banking Commission."
Wilhelmina’s aristocratic eyebrows arched slightly. She gestured with a skeletal, diamond-ringed finger, and her personal legal counsel tapped the screen.
As the files loaded, the cold color in Wilhelmina’s cheeks slowly began to fade.
"This... this is impossible," the Baroness whispered, her voice losing its icy composure as she scrolled through line after line of international financial audits.
"It's not impossible, Baroness; it's thorough," Noah interjected smoothly, leaning against the table with a confident smirk. "While your syndicate was busy hiding behind dormant preference shares from 1884, our corporate tech division cross-referenced your Swiss banking registrations with post-WWII restitution treaties. Your syndicate’s primary assets were legally classified as dormant Nazi-era contraband funds three weeks ago."

"Which means, Wilhelmina, if you attempt to file a single claim against Vance Global Tech or the Vance Foundation, Interpol will seize every offshore account your syndicate owns before breakfast."
Wilhelmina stared at the documents, her hands trembling violently against the edge of the table. The untouchable queen of the old-world financial shadows had just been checkmated by three twenty-year-old men and their mother.
