Chapter 11 - THE GHOST IN THE SYSTEM

The federal lockdown of Isabella’s assets brought a temporary sense of peace, but peace in the Monteverde-Ruiz household was never meant to last. Three weeks after the dock sting, a strange digital anomaly rippled through the secure servers of the foundation.

Alejandro was in the private home study when his chief cybersecurity engineer, Marcus, patched through via an encrypted emergency video call.

"Mr. Monteverde, we have a problem," Marcus said, his face illuminated by the harsh blue light of his monitors. "Even though Isabella and Dr. Vance are behind bars, a secondary protocol just triggered inside the main database."

Alejandro frowned, leaning closer to the camera. "What kind of protocol?"

"A dead-man’s switch," Marcus replied grimly. "An encrypted payload was automatically released to an external server fifteen minutes ago. It didn't go to the media or the feds. It went to a private IP address registered in Geneva—linked to an offshore trust under the name Victor’s Shadow."

Alejandro’s breath caught. His father had died years ago, but Viktor Monteverde had always left contingency plans wrapped inside contingencies. "What data was in the payload?"

"That’s the terrifying part, sir," Marcus whispered. "It’s not corporate files. It’s a biological profile. A complete genetic mapping sequence matching Miss Ruiz and... and young master Gabriel."

Before Alejandro could process the implications, the study door creaked open. Elena stood on the threshold, her face pale, holding a small, sealed legal envelope that had just been delivered by an international courier service.

"Alejandro," Elena’s voice shook. "The front gate security just intercepted this. It’s addressed to me... from Geneva."
