Chapter 7 - THE UNSEEN THREATSix months passed.

The transition was not easy, but it was real. The Monteverde-Ruiz Foundation was officially launched, making international headlines and shifting corporate philanthropy into medical research for underprivileged communities. Elena had moved into a sprawling, sunlit estate overlooking the ocean—not because Alejandro demanded it, but because it was a neutral space where they could rebuild their lives on their own terms.

They weren't married yet, but the frantic, suffocating control of the past had dissolved into a quiet, daily partnership of mutual respect and deepening love.

It was a crisp autumn evening. The ocean breeze rattled the French doors of the estate library. Elena was putting Gabriel to sleep in his crib upstairs, while Alejandro was downstairs pouring a glass of scotch, reviewing the final clearance documents for Isabella’s corporate banishment.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed on the mahogany desk.

An unknown video file. No text. Just a timestamp from five minutes ago.

Alejandro frowned, clicking play.

The video loaded. It was dark, shaky, filmed through a night-vision lens. It showed a dimly lit storage facility somewhere in Zurich.

Then, a voice spoke—a voice Alejandro hadn't heard in months.

"Did you really think I was just going to pack my bags and walk away, Alejandro?"

It was Isabella. But she wasn't alone. Standing behind her in the shadows of the video frame was a man Alejandro recognized instantly—Dr. Vance, the St. Jude’s administrator who had first notified Alejandro of Elena’s location.

"Your little corporate restructuring is cute," Isabella laughed lightly in the video, swirling a glass of champagne. "You thought Julian was the only one who knew about the secondary trust? Dr. Vance here kept the master backup keys to the Ruiz biomedical patents. And guess what, darling? We didn't file them under the Monteverde name. We filed them under a offshore entity in the Cayman Islands."

Dr. Vance leaned into the camera, smiling coldly. "You have forty-eight hours to transfer fifty million dollars into our liquidation account, Mr. Monteverde. Otherwise, we leak the true medical records of your son—proving he was born under a falsified identity—triggering a federal child abduction investigation that will strip Elena of her parental rights permanently."

The video cut to black.

Alejandro stood frozen, the glass of scotch slipping from his hand, shattering into a thousand amber pieces against the marble floor.
