Chapter 5 - The Turnaround

Marcus Vance didn't even have time to turn around before a heavy military-grade flashbang grenade tumbled down the ladder hatch, landing squarely at his feet.

FLASH! BANG!

The subterranean bunker erupted into a disorienting flash of blinding white light and a concussive shockwave that shattered the remaining glass in the greenhouse roof. Vance screamed, dropping his weapon as his retinas burned and his ears rang with agonizing intensity.

From the ladder opening, a smoke-masked figure dropped smoothly into the bunker, wielding a customized Mossberg shotgun with deadly efficiency. Two quick, suppressed shots echoed in rapid succession, neutralizing Vance's remaining guards before they could return fire.

"Clear!" shouted a deep, gravelly voice through the respirator mask.

Lorenzo blinked hard against the lingering smoke, pulling Sophia and Lily back as the masked figure pulled off their helmet. To Lorenzo's utter shock, revealed beneath the tactical gear was none other than Captain Elena Vance—Marcus's estranged sister and the head of Interpol’s elite transnational trafficking task force.

"Elena?" Lorenzo stared, dumbfounded. "What in God's name are you doing here?"

"Saving your ungrateful corporate neck, Lorenzo," Elena panted, tossing her helmet aside and kicking a groaning Marcus Vance firmly in the ribs, sending him sprawling unconscious across the concrete floor. "I’ve been tracking this syndicate for three years. Valentina and my brother Marcus were the North American node. I couldn't move in without ironclad proof from inside the estate mainframe—which, it appears, your housekeeper just handed me on a silver platter."

Sophia slowly opened her eyes, looking from the unconscious international criminal to the fierce female Interpol agent, and finally down at the glowing terminal. "So... it's over?"

"The local chapter is dismantled," Elena said grimly, pulling out a pair of heavy-duty zip-ties and cuffing her brother securely. "But the syndicate is international, and the people pulling Marcus's strings are sitting in boardrooms from Zurich to Geneva. They won't take this lying down."

Lorenzo stepped forward, his posture radiating the absolute authority of a man who had just reclaimed his empire. He looked down at Marcus Vance, then turned to Sophia, his expression softening into something profoundly respectful and deeply warm.

"Sophia," Lorenzo said softly, extending his hand. "You saved my life, and more importantly, you saved my home. I realize now that my estate has been rotten at the core, but I want to rebuild it properly. If you are willing, I want you to step out of the shadows. Not as my housekeeper, but as the Head of Estate Operations and Chief Security Liaison for Moretti Global."

Sophia stared at his outstretched hand, then down at Lily, who was smiling up at her with starry-eyed pride. Slowly, deliberately, Sophia placed her hand in his. "I accept, Mr. Moretti. But I still expect to dust the library myself on Tuesdays."

Elena smirked, tapping her tactical comms earpiece as a red light suddenly began blinking furiously on the master server console. "Enjoy the promotion while it lasts, you two. Because the main server just received a remote override ping from Zurich."
