Chapter 23 - The Chicago ConnectionThe revelation struck me like a structural load shifting violently off-center. For years, I had believed my mother’s malice was localized—a bitter, narcissistic woman trying to control her son, humiliate her daughter-in-law, and hoard cash for luxury shopping trips.

“Who’s directing the new front company?” I asked, leaning across the table, my voice dropping an octave.
“An individual who goes by the corporate alias V. Sterling,” Julian replied, tapping a finger against a printed wire-transfer log. “And according to our digital footprint tracing, they’ve already filed a preliminary quiet-title lawsuit against your personal residence in Nashville, claiming that the land your house is built on was purchased using unrecovered funds from an unregistered federal trust.”
“That’s impossible,” I countered sharply. “The federal court cleared our deed and issued a permanent injunction protecting our title following the criminal trial.”
“Normally, yes,” Julian sighed, packing his files back into his briefcase. “Unless someone inside the federal receivership office falsified the digital release signatures. Mr. Bradley, someone high up in the judicial administration is trying to finish what your mother started—and they’re using the legal system as a wrecking ball to take everything you’ve built.”
