Chapter 24 - Race Against TimeI didn’t wait to finish the conversation. I thanked Julian Cross tersely, grabbed my jacket and keys, and sprinted out of the construction trailer, jumping into my truck and tearing down the highway toward home.

The twenty-minute drive felt like an eternity. My mind raced through the possibilities. If a fraudulent quiet-title lawsuit was already in motion, and someone was trying to breach our property lines while Amy and Frederick were home alone, the threat had escalated from financial fraud to direct physical intimidation.
As I turned onto our quiet country lane, my heart skipped a beat.
parked across the entrance of our driveway was an unmarked black sedan with tinted windows. Standing near the front porch steps was an unfamiliar man in a sharp grey suit, holding a thick stack of legal documents and aggressively knocking on our front door.
I slammed on my brakes, sliding my truck to a halt right behind his sedan, blocking his exit.
I flung the truck door open and strode up the gravel path, my voice ringing out across the lawn.
“Get away from my house!”

The man in the grey suit turned around slowly, showing no sign of panic. He adjusted his tie, flashed a cold, professional smile, and pulled a laminated badge from his breast pocket.
“Mr. Connor Bradley?” the man asked smoothly. “I’m process server Marcus Vance—no relation to the disgraced officer, I assure you. You’ve been officially served with a federal emergency asset injunction and a notice of immediate property foreclosure.”
