Chapter 25 - The Foreclosure NoticeI stared at the thick stack of papers thrust into my chest. My hands trembled slightly, not from fear, but from a towering, white-hot surge of adrenaline.

“Foreclosure?” I snapped, swatting the papers down to the grass. “This property was cleared by federal court order eighteen months ago! There is no debt on this house!”

“According to Federal Court Order 88-B, issued yesterday morning in the U.S. District Court of Chicago, the previous discharge of liens involving T&M Holdings assets was based on fraudulent or incomplete disclosure of hidden liabilities,” Marcus Vance recited mechanically, like a man reading from a script he had practiced a thousand times. “By order of the magistrate, all properties acquired through funds linked to those accounts are subject to immediate administrative seizure pending a full evidentiary hearing.”

Just then, the front door swung open. Amy stood in the doorway, holding a sleeping Frederick in her arms. Her face was pale, but her eyes held a fierce, unyielding light.

“Connor, don’t listen to him,” Amy said firmly, stepping out onto the porch. “I just checked our secure digital portal. Our family lawyer, Elena Vance, sent an urgent alert five minutes ago. This isn’t a legitimate federal order—it’s a counterfeit legal filing generated through a compromised judicial portal in Illinois!”

Marcus Vance’s calm, professional facade flickered for a fraction of a second, his eyes darting toward Amy with a sudden flash of irritation.

“Ma’am, interfering with a federal process server is a felony,” Marcus warned, stepping back toward his sedan.

“And attempting corporate extortion using forged court documents is a twenty-year federal prison sentence,” a crisp, authoritative voice echoed from behind my truck.

Julian Cross stepped out from behind a large oak tree, holding a compact recording device and flashing his official state auditor badge. Behind him, two local sheriff’s cruisers pulled up with their emergency lights flashing, blocking the sedan from both ends.
