Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of DebtThe ink on the corporate seizure documents was barely dry when the secondary wave of financial fallout hit the Vance family like a tidal wave.

While Julian sat rotting in a maximum-security holding cell awaiting trial, his defense team realized they had no money left to pay retainer fees. One by one, his high-priced attorneys withdrew their representation, citing non-payment and a conflict of interest due to the overwhelming fraudulent asset trails I had laid bare.

Eleanor and her daughters, having been evicted from the grand estate with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, found themselves squeezed into a cramped, outdated two-bedroom apartment on the industrial outskirts of the city. It was a place Eleanor once claimed didn't even deserve to exist on the city map.

"Mom, there’s no hot water again!" Sophie yelled from the tiny bathroom, her voice echoing off the peeling linoleum walls.

Eleanor sat at a wobbly kitchen table, frantically tapping on a burner phone—the only device not registered under her seized asset profile. She dialed a number she had memorized years ago: Harrison Vance, her wealthy brother-in-law living in Zurich.

After five rings, a clipped, formal assistant answered.

“Vance International Holdings. How may I direct your call?”

"Put Harrison on the line right now!" Eleanor practically shrieked, her voice frantic. "Tell him it’s Eleanor! My son is in prison, our estate has been stolen by an ungrateful imposter, and we are living in squalor! He has to wire us emergency funds!"

There was a brief, agonizing pause on the line. Then, Harrison Vance’s cold, crisp voice came through the speaker.

"Eleanor," Harrison said, offering zero warmth. "I have read the federal indictments. Julian didn't just fail; he embezzled funds across international borders using shell companies. And worse, he thought he could outsmart the Stark Global Trust."

"Harrison, please! We are family!"

"Family doesn't steal from the Stark portfolio," Harrison cut her off sharply. "My legal team informs me that Stark Global has acquired all of Julian’s remaining personal debts. That means every credit card, every unpaid loan, and every lawsuit is now under Elena Stark’s direct control. If I were you, Eleanor, I wouldn't ask for money. I would start praying for mercy."

The line went dead. Eleanor dropped the phone, burying her face in her hands as silent, bitter tears of defeat finally broke through her porcelain pride.
