Chapter 13 - The Grand Jury TestimonyThe federal courtroom was packed to capacity. Flashbulbs blinded me as I walked up the marble steps, flanked by federal marshals and my legal team. Media outlets from across the globe were broadcasting the proceedings live.

Inside the chamber, Julian sat at the defense table. He looked hollowed out, his skin gray, his eyes sunken into his skull. When the heavy double doors opened and I walked in wearing a tailored emerald-green trench coat and sharp heels, Julian flinched as if struck physically.
"Witness, please state your name and relation to the defendant for the record," the federal judge commanded.
"Elena Stark," I said clearly, my voice echoing off the mahogany walls. "Former wife of Julian Vance, and majority trustee of Stark Global Holdings."
For the next two hours, I dismantled Julian’s life piece by piece. I presented the handwritten ledger, the encrypted bank transfers, the fraudulent corporate filings, and the digital audio recordings of Julian mocking my supposed humble origins while secretly funneling millions into offshore accounts.
Julian’s court-appointed public defender didn't even bother objecting. There was nothing left to defend. The evidence was an insurmountable mountain of cold, hard truth.
When the prosecutor asked me about the morning of the divorce, I paused, letting the silence hang heavy in the courtroom.
"He struck me across the face," I said, my voice steady, cutting through the quiet room like a knife. "In my own kitchen. In front of his entire family. Because he believed that a woman who cooked his meals and served his relatives had no legal voice, no identity, and no power."
Julian buried his face in his hands, trembling violently as murmurs of disgust rippled through the jury box.
"And did you?" the prosecutor asked.

I looked straight at Julian, holding his terrified gaze across the room.
"No," I replied softly. "I just reminded him who actually owned the roof over his head."
