Chapter 3 - The Frozen AccountsPanic is a contagious disease, and in the Vance household, it spread like wildfire.

"Julian! Fix this right now!" Eleanor shrieked, standing up so fast her chair knocked backward against the hardwood floor. "Who was that on the phone? Some angry investor? Call them back and tell them who we are!"
Julian ignored his mother. He lunged across the mahogany table, grabbing his laptop and slamming it open. His fingers flew across the keyboard, his breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps. He logged into the primary corporate banking portal for Aether Innovations, expecting to see millions of dollars in liquid capital ready to deploy for damage control.
Instead, a stark crimson banner flashed across the screen:
ACCOUNT FROZEN: UNAUTHORIZED ENTITY ACCESS. BALANCE: $0.00
Julian blinked, scrubbing his eyes with the back of his hand as if trying to clear a hallucination. He refreshed the page. Nothing changed. He opened the personal joint checking account—the one connected to his credit cards, his luxury cars, and his country club memberships.
Same red banner. Same zero balance.
"No, no, no, no," Julian muttered, his voice pitching higher into panic. "This is a glitch. A banking error! I'll call the private banking concierge."
He grabbed his phone again, dialing a direct VIP line. After three rings, a crisp, automated voice answered:
“Thank you for calling Sterling Private Wealth. Due to a mandatory restructuring of primary trust assets initiated by the majority holder, all secondary sub-accounts associated with this profile have been permanently decoupled and locked. Goodbye.”
Julian dropped the phone. It clattered against the glass of orange juice, splashing pulp across the pristine white tablecloth.
"Elena," Julian choked out, his face twisting in desperate fury as he finally turned his full, unadulterated terror toward me. "What did you do? What did you do to my accounts?!"
I walked slowly into the dining room, stepping over Eleanor's fallen chair with quiet grace. I stopped right beside Julian, looking down at his trembling form.
"Your accounts?" I tilted my head, raising an eyebrow. "Julian, darling. When you married a quiet, unassuming woman from a modest background five years ago, did you ever bother to check who owned the venture capital fund that launched Aether Innovations? Did you ever look past the corporate registration facade?"

Julian stared at me, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.
"My name isn't just Elena," I whispered softly. "It’s Elena Vance-Stark. And Aethelgard Holdings—the entity that owns every single line of code, every server farm, and every patent you ever slapped your name on—was founded by my grandfather long before your family ever figured out how to polish silver."
