Chapter 4 - The House of CardsThe color drained entirely from Eleanor’s face, leaving her looking like a cracked porcelain doll.

"That's... that's impossible," Eleanor stammered, clutching her South Sea pearls as if they were a lifeline. "You're just a nobody! A charity case Julian picked up from some small-town diner! You lived here, you cooked our meals, you cleaned our floors—!"

"I played a part, Eleanor," I interrupted, my voice sharp enough to draw blood. I turned my gaze to Julian's judgmental sisters, Chloe and Sophie, who were now trembling in their seats. "I wanted to see who my husband truly was when he thought he had absolute power. I wanted to see if beneath the tailored suits and the condescending smiles, there was an actual man, or just an empty shell riding on my family's hidden investments."

Julian lunged forward, his hands clawing at the air as if he wanted to strike me again. But before his fingers could even graze my sleeve, the heavy oak front doors of the estate burst open with a resounding bang.

Three men in sharp charcoal suits stepped into the grand foyer, flanked by local law enforcement officers.

"Julian Vance?" the lead man asked, flashing a federal badge.

Julian froze, his hands hovering mid-air. "W-Who are you? What is the meaning of this? This is private property! Get out!"

"Special Agent Miller, Federal Securities and Fraud Division," the man announced, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. "Mr. Vance, you are being placed under arrest for corporate embezzlement, insider trading, and falsifying venture capital disclosures using fraudulent asset valuations."

Gasps erupted around the dining table. Sophie burst into hysterical tears, while Chloe buried her face in her hands, hyperventilating.

"There's been a mistake!" Julian screamed, backing away until his legs hit the edge of the dining table. "My wife—she did something! She hacked the system! Look at her!"

Agent Miller turned his gaze toward me. A flicker of profound respect crossed the agent's stern features. He gave me a crisp, subtle nod.

"Good morning, Mrs. Stark," Agent Miller said formally. "We have received all the encrypted financial ledgers and forensic audits you transmitted this morning. The evidence is airtight. Mr. Vance’s entire corporate structure has been exposed as an illegal front."

Julian turned his head slowly, his eyes wide with absolute horror as he looked at me. "You... you set this up? All of this... the marriage, the last five years... you were investigating me?"

"I gave you every chance to be a decent human being, Julian," I said, my voice cold, devoid of any lingering warmth or mercy. "You chose cruelty. You chose arrogance. And now, you get to experience the consequences."
