Chapter 6 - The Scramble for SurvivalBy evening, the luxury estate felt entirely different. The oppressive, suffocating atmosphere of condescension had been replaced by a chilling, clinical emptiness.

The security codes had been changed. The luxury cars parked in the circular driveway—Julian’s sports cars, Chloe’s imported SUV, Sophie’s convertible—had all been repossessed by Stark Global’s asset recovery team and towed away into the twilight.
Eleanor and her daughters were hoarded in the formal parlor, surrounded by a mountain of Louis Vuitton suitcases, frantically calling every wealthy friend, distant cousin, and high-society acquaintance they had spent years looking down upon.
"What do you mean you're 'busy this weekend'?! Are you hanging up on me?!" Chloe shrieked into her phone, her mascara running down her cheeks in messy black streaks. "Listen to me, you ungrateful cow, I invited you to my birthday party last year! You owe me!"
Click.
Chloe stared at her screen in sheer disbelief before throwing the phone across the room, where it shattered against the marble fireplace.
Sophie was curled up on a velvet sofa, sniffling miserably. "Mom, what are we going to do? Julian’s bail hearing was denied, his lawyers dropped him because the retainers bounced, and the bank accounts are completely locked. We have no cash. Not even enough to pay for an Uber."
Eleanor sat rigidly in a wingback chair, her face pale, her hands trembling as she clutched her pearl necklace—the only high-value item she had managed to hide in her coat pocket.
"We are going to stay calm," Eleanor hissed, though her voice lacked its usual venom. She looked up as the double doors opened and I stepped into the room, accompanied by two private security guards.
Eleanor scrambled to her feet, her pride momentarily flaring up despite her desperate situation. "Elena! Have you lost your mind completely?! We are family—"
"Family?" I cut her off, my voice steady and cold. "The moment Julian struck me in this house, and the moment you smiled and called me your maid, any illusion of family was shattered into dust."
I walked over to the coffee table and placed a single document down on the polished wood.
"What is this?" Eleanor glared at it.
"An itemized bill," I replied calmly. "For the last five years, I have acted as the executive chef, estate manager, financial auditor, and primary caregiver for this household. According to standard executive rates for household management and corporate restructuring services rendered, your family owes me precisely $4.2 million in back wages."

Sophie gasped, covering her mouth. "You're insane! You can't charge us for living here!"
"I didn't charge you for living here," I corrected her with a sharp smile. "I charged you for my labor. And since you don't have $4.2 million, Stark Global is formally foreclosing on every remaining personal asset registered under your individual names."
