The second operative spun around, aiming his gun straight at Arthur's chest.

From the shadows, Elena lunged forward, using the heavy kitchen knife to slice through the strap of the operative's tactical vest, throwing his aim off just enough for Arthur to tackle him hard into the wall. The man slumped unconscious.

The third intruder panicked, turning toward the stairs—straight toward the nursery where baby Leo was sleeping.
"No you don't!" Elena screamed, a primal, motherly fury igniting in her eyes. She sprinted up the stairs faster than humanly possible, intercepting the intruder just as he reached the landing. She slammed her shoulder into his chest, sending both of them crashing heavily onto the carpeted hallway.
