Chapter 11 - The Shadow Syndicate

Five years passed.

Hart Global had grown into an untouchable corporate empire, commanding bio-tech, global shipping, and clean energy. My children, Leo and Maya, were five years old now—brilliant, happy, and thriving under the shadow of a mother who had built a fortress around their lives. To the world, I was the unshakeable Claire Hart: the woman who rose from cardiac arrest to crush her enemies and build a legacy.

Then came the letter.

It didn't arrive by email or mail. It was placed directly on my desk inside a sealed lead container while my security team was monitoring the executive floor.

I opened it with gloved hands. Inside was a single black-and-white photo of my children playing in the private gardens of our estate, taken from a high-powered sniper lens. On the back was a single line written in red ink:

“William Hart took what was mine. Now I come for what is yours.”

Ten minutes later, Jonathan Mercer rushed into my office without knocking. His face was ghostly pale.

"Claire, we have a breach," Jonathan said, his hands visibly shaking. "A foreign investment conglomerate called The Blackwood Group just acquired sixteen percent of Hart Global’s public shares through a series of offshore shell companies in Panama and Zurich. They did it in less than three hours."

"Who owns Blackwood?" I asked, my voice instantly turning to ice.

"That's the terrifying part," Jonathan replied, dropping a intelligence folder on my desk. "The primary beneficiary behind Blackwood isn't a wall street hedge fund. The paperwork was signed by someone using an executive pardon issued late last night."

I opened the file. Staring back at me was a fresh mugshot of Flynn Vance—except he wasn't in a prison uniform. He was standing on the tarmac of a private airfield, dressed in a bespoke charcoal suit, holding a champagne glass.

Flynn had been secretly released. And someone with limitless wealth had just bought him his freedom.
