Chapter 14 - Protocol Zero

Jonathan stared at me in shock. "Claire... Protocol Zero was created by your grandfather as a last resort. If you trigger it, you burn down eighty percent of your own net worth!"
"They tried to poison my children, Jonathan!" I roared, slamming my palms onto the mahogany desk. "I don't care about the money! I don't care about the shares! I will burn the entire financial world to ash before I let Evelyn Blackwood or Flynn Vance breathe the same air as my family!"
Protocol Zero was William Hart's nuclear option. It was a self-destruct mechanism built directly into the core foundation of Hart Global's patents. If activated, all proprietary chemical formulas, software algorithms, and logistics codes owned by Hart Global would automatically be wiped from global servers and re-encrypted into a single offline drive held exclusively in my physical possession.
Without those patents, Hart Global was nothing more than empty real estate and useless paper. Anyone trying to hostilely take over the company would inherit billions in debt and zero operational technology.
"Do it," I commanded.
Jonathan entered his master key into the secure server terminal in my office. I pressed my right hand against the biometric scanner and recited the passphrase my grandfather had made me memorize on his deathbed.
“A Hart does not yield to wolves.”

Across the globe, servers went dark. Trading terminals handling Hart Global shares threw error messages. On the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, complete chaos erupted as the value of Blackwood Group's freshly purchased shares plummeted to zero in less than sixty seconds.
Evelyn Blackwood had just spent three billion dollars buying an empty shell.
