Chapter 17 - Ambush at Hart Manor

An hour later, four black armored SUVs tore through the winding mountain roads toward Hart Manor—the abandoned Victorian estate where my grandfather had built his original fortune.
Rain lashed against the windshields as my tactical team checked their automatic weapons. Flynn sat in the back of my vehicle, handcuffed and wrapped in a medical bandage, forced to guide us through the estate's hidden entry points.
"There are at least twelve armed guards on the main floor," Flynn warned, his teeth chattering. "Evelyn brought high-grade military contractors."
"David," I said into my headset. "Thermal imaging."
"Target acquired, Chairwoman," David replied from the lead vehicle. "Eight targets in the main hall. Two on the upper balcony. One target seated in the study."
"Execute silent entry," I commanded.
We moved like ghosts through the rear servants' entrance. My team dismantled Evelyn's perimeter guards one by one with suppressed weapons, moving through the dark, dust-covered hallways of my childhood home.
I pushed open the double doors of the grand library.

Sitting behind my grandfather's old mahogany desk was Evelyn Blackwood. She was calmly sipping tea while two mercenaries held weapons aimed at the chest of an elderly man tied to a chair—it was Arthur, my grandfather's eighty-year-old butler.
"I knew you'd come, little sister," Evelyn said, without even looking up as I stepped into the room.
