Chapter 5 - The Medical Sabotage

Dr. Vance looked sternly at Gemma and Andrew. "What is the meaning of this intrusion? This is a restricted pediatric intensive care unit."
Gemma pointed a finger at me, turning her rage toward the Chief of Medicine. "Dr. Vance, you need to fire her! Samantha Miller is unstable! She abandoned her own wedding and operated on this girl while emotionally distressed! She put this child in danger!"
Andrew nodded eagerly, stepping up to support his new wife. "It's true! Sam told me she was exhausted before she left the house. She shouldn't have been in that operating room. She made errors!"
I stared at Andrew, disgusted. He was willing to destroy my medical license—my entire life's work—just to justify his own betrayal.
"Errors?" Zachary asked, walking toward Andrew with a terrifying quietness. "Are you saying my daughter's surgeon was incompetent?"
"Yes!" Gemma yelled. "She rushed the surgery so she could come back to the wedding! We have proof she faked the emergency call!"
Dr. Vance pulled out a tablet. "That's impossible. The emergency call was dispatched directly from my office at 6:10 AM after Paisley Howard was admitted through ER."
"Check the digital logs!" Gemma insisted, her face flushed. "Samantha had a nurse flag the case as severe just so she had an excuse to ditch Andrew!"

Zachary tapped Dr. Vance's tablet. "Actually, let's look at the digital logs right now. Because three weeks ago, someone logged into Dr. Miller's hospital portal from an unauthorized IP address and altered her shift schedules to make it look like she was regularly abandoning her duties."
Gemma went dead silent. The color drained completely from her face.
