Chapter 14 - The Trap Is SetWe needed proof, and we needed it before the upcoming annual shareholders' meeting in ten days. If Sterling managed to consolidate enough proxy votes from disgruntled former investors, he could legally unseat me as CEO and reinstate the Vale family legacy of corruption.

I played my hand with calculated precision. I leaked a fabricated memo to our corporate communications desk—intentionally letting it slip to a compromised double-agent on our internal audit team—stating that Vale Global Motors was about to announce a massive financial shortfall that would tank our stock price by fifty percent.

Three days later, my private phone buzzed with an encrypted text message from an unknown Swiss number: Sell your voting shares now, Elena, or watch everything you built burn to the ground by Friday.

I smiled at the screen, dialed my father, and whispered just three words: "He took the bait."
