Chapter 18 - A New HorizonThe line went dead with a soft click. I hung up my desk phone, stood up, and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the magnificent city that had witnessed both my greatest humiliation and my ultimate triumph.

My father walked into my office carrying two takeout coffees from our favorite working-class diner, handing one to me with a warm, proud smile.

"Working late again, boss?" he asked, leaning against the edge of my desk.

"Just wrapping up the final audit," I smiled, taking a sip of the rich, dark coffee. "Everything is balanced. Every account is clean."

"Good," my father said, clapping me gently on the shoulder. "Because your mother wants to know if you're finally coming home for Sunday dinner, or if you're going to stay here conquering the automotive world forever."

"Tell her I'll be there," I laughed, grabbing my coat off the back of my chair. "And tell her I'm bringing dessert."
