Chapter 9 - The New Foundation

Three months later, the front-page headline of the Providence Evening Gazette sent shockwaves through the New England corporate world.

STANFORD DEVELOPMENT VOLUNTARILY REOPENS NORTHSIDE BRIDGE INVESTIGATION; MILLIONAIRE CEO STEPS DOWN PENDING AUDIT.

Inside the sprawling estate outside Providence, the morning routine had changed entirely.

The coffee was still brewed before dawn. The financial reports were still waiting on the mahogany desk. But the man sitting behind that desk was no longer driven by cold numbers and unfeeling corporate growth.

Lianna Prescott was no longer scrubbing marble floors. Instead, she sat in a spacious, sunlit corner office on the top floor of Stanford Development’s downtown tower—not as an employee, but as the newly appointed Director of the Stanford Foundation for Corporate Integrity, an endowment funded entirely by the liquidation of the illicit assets seized from Donald Vance and the late Robert Stanford’s hidden accounts.

Downstairs, a dedicated trust fund had been established in Julian Vance’s name, guaranteeing free housing, education, and financial security for every single family in Rhode Island struggling to afford basic infant care and housing.

And upstairs, on a bright Thursday afternoon, Corbin Stanford looked out his office window toward the east side of the city, watching the rain clear away to reveal a brilliant, golden autumn sun.

His phone buzzed on the desk. He picked it up.

It was a text from Lianna: “Austin took his first steps today. He wanted you to know.”

Corbin smiled—a genuine, unburdened smile that reached his eyes for the first time in his life.
