Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a New LegacySix months later, the Whitaker estate looked entirely different.

The cold, intimidating iron gates were still there, but the mansion inside felt alive. Sunlight streamed through every window, filling the marble halls with warmth, laughter, and the patter of tiny, running feet.
Zion was fourteen months old now, cruising around the living room furniture, clutching a colorful plastic toy in one hand while babbling happily.
I stood on the back veranda, holding a cup of black coffee, watching the golden autumn leaves drift across the manicured lawn. Footsteps approached softly from behind, and a familiar warmth settled beside me at the railing.
Emily leaned against the stone, looking out over the gardens.
"You're home early again," she noted with a soft, teasing smile. "That's two days in a row, Mr. Whitaker. The board of directors is going to think you're losing your edge."
I chuckled, wrapping a protective arm around her shoulders and pulling her closer against my side.
"Let them think whatever they want," I murmured, resting my chin gently against her hair. "For the first time in my life, I finally have everything under control—because I finally learned how to let go."
Emily looked up at me, her brown eyes sparkling with humor and deep affection. "Does that mean I'm still just your employee?"
I reached into my pocket, pulling out a small velvet box, and dropped gently down onto one knee right there on the veranda stones, framed by the warm evening sun.
"Not by a long shot," I whispered, opening the box to reveal a stunning, brilliant diamond ring. "Emily Vance... will you stay and help me run this family for the rest of our lives?"
May you like
Emily's breath hitched, tears of pure joy springing to her eyes as a radiant smile broke across her face.
"Yes," she whispered, pulling me down into a kiss that sealed our past, our scars, and our unexpected forever.
