Two years later, Vance Industrial Distribution held its annual charity gala at the city’s premier downtown ballroom. As COO, I delivered the keynote address, outlining our corporation's multi-million-dollar commitment to regional sustainability and educational scholarships for underprivileged single parents.
The applause was thunderous as I stepped off the stage, surrounded by flash photography, admiring executives, and industry leaders who treated me with absolute deference and respect.
As I walked toward the VIP lounge for a private interview with a national financial magazine, a familiar, weathered figure caught my eye near the catering service entrance.
